The top 5 reasons to start your fitness New Year resolutions now

As we approach the end of the year, this is when we often start to think about those New Year resolutions like lose weight, give up smoking or drink less.

But why wait? Why do we need to start in the new year? Let me give you my top five reasons why you shouldn’t wait until the new year but start those fitness resolutions now.

1. Summer is here already

I have to admit Summer is my favourite time of year – I love the hot weather as that means shorts, singlets and dresses and going to the beach. Unfortunately this means a lot more skin being on display and often there are a few areas that may need a bit of toning and tightening. So start now as you will be in better shape for those Xmas parties, holidays and survive the silly season with confidence.

2. Get a great deal

With holidays and Christmas approaching, health and fitness often takes a back seat for most people, therefore most fitness businesses usually experience a drop in demand. To keep sales up, they often have great deals and promotions to encourage new people to sign up.

So look around and see what is on offer as it is likely you won’t get such a good deal in the New Year when everyone is looking to start their fitness routine.

3. Most New Year Resolutions Fail

It is a well known fact that the vast majority of new year resolutions fall by the wayside. So why wait, start now and increase the chances of reaching your fitness goals. Just make sure you set realistic and achievable goals to increase the chance of succeeding this year and next.

4. Beat the rush

Following from my previous point, most people wait till the new year to finally do something about their fitness. The new year is one of the busiest time for gyms – classes are bursting to capacity, the weights room is packed and every machine seems to be taken.

This holiday period is always the same – gyms are less crowded and numbers always drop as people go on holidays or spend more time shopping or with the family. After the Australia Day long weekend, everyone returns back into the routine.  So if you feel a bit self-conscious or you want a bit of peace and quiet while you train, beat the rush and start exercising now.

5. The most important thing in your life takes priority

Your health is the most important thing in your life. Your body is the most important thing you will ever own. Unfortunately it is often something we take for granted but trust me, it is only when something goes wrong that we realise just how valuable it is.

There is that old saying, health is wealth – for me, you can never put a price on your health and body. No matter whether you are male or female, young or old, we all want to lead and healthy and long life – so don’t put it off any longer.
