The top 5 ways to keep training when it’s cold

Over Winter it can be hard to keep training when it’s so cold. Many of us lapse over the colder months which can be detrimental to our health not only now, but all the way into Spring and Summer. Is all that work you have done until this point for nothing? Don’t let Winter stop you from achieving your goals! There are plenty of ways that you can get back that motivation and get the summer body you have always dreamed of!

1. Invest in some winter active wear and layer up!

Firstly, we have to start with the obvious (and often the most fun). You may need to go shopping, but hey it’s all for fitness! Invest in some good quality, lightweight but warm active wear for the cold weather. There is always new gear over Winter from your favourite brands, so shop around and find the best option for you and your situation. Having brand new gear for the change in weather will give you even more motivation to keep to your fitness regime. You are able to take layers off as you start to get warmer, but that is much easier than wishing you had more on (and don’t forget the gloves and beanie)!

2. Start in the morning

Getting up in the morning when the weather is cold is hard, getting out training is harder. So combine the two and begin your day with an early morning workout. Start your day off right and shock your system with an invigorating outdoor session. You will feel better for it and have the rest of the day to do what you need to do.

3. Find your workout buddy

Never underestimate the impact of having someone to support you through your training journey over winter. When motivation is low, it can do you the world of good to find a workout buddy who has similar goals to you. It’s so much easier to get up if you are encouraging not just yourself but your friend as well. That added motivation will be more likely to get you up and about rather than training on your own.

4. Try something new

The monotony of the same workout day in and day out will surely get you into a funk, especially over Winter. Trying a different workout style or changing up your routine will have you more motivated to continue your journey rather than give up when the going gets tough.

5. Keep the cravings at bay

Sticking to a healthy diet is a great way to keep your health in check and in turn will keep you training strong over Winter. Plan your food in advance, stock up on protein rich foods which will keep you feeling fuller for longer and will keep your energy levels high. Junk food and quick take outs can be tempting but if you plan your meals you will be more likely to stick with your fitness goals.

It can be hard, no one said your fitness journey would be easy, but if you take into account some of these tips and work hard you will have that bikini body you have always wanted by the time Summer rolls round.
